Assessment of Progress
Assessment is an on-going process and teachers record progress through summative and formative assessment. Regular assessments are made which inform teaching and learning.
The 'Home School Reading Diary' is not only a vital communication between teachers and parents but also serves as part of a record of the child's reading development. These remain with the children throughout their time in school.
Children are assessed against age related expectations at the end of Year 1 and Year 2. Parents are given report of these assessments at the end of the summer term and meet the teacher to discuss next steps.
Throughout the Foundation Stage each child is assessed in the seven areas of learning against the Early Learning Goals. At our nursery, we are guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework to ensure every child receives a high-quality, well-rounded education. We use the EYFS document to plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate activities that support children’s development across the seven areas of learning. Through continuous observation and assessment, we track each child’s progress, identifying their unique strengths and areas for growth. This enables us to tailor our teaching to meet individual needs, fostering a love for learning and helping every child reach their full potential.
In our Reception class, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework is central to our approach, guiding us in creating a rich and stimulating learning environment. This personalised approach helps to build confidence, nurture curiosity, and lay a strong foundation for future learning.
Parents are welcome to make arrangements with individual teachers, or the Headteacher, at a mutually convenient time. Should a problem arise, parents should contact the teacher or Headteacher immediately.
Parent/Teacher consultations are held in the Autumn and Spring terms when parents have the opportunity of discussing their child's progress with his/her teacher. Staff are always willing to make a separate appointment with any parent who needs additional time. Bookings are made via Scopay, so please ensure that you register for Scopay when your child starts school.
