Impact
We measure the impact of the children's progress through continuous summative and formative assessment. However, we want the children in our care to have ownership of their learning, this is evident in our Learning Detective books where children are able to document and tell us what they have been learning and are able to demonstrate their use of new vocabulary.
The three characteristics of effective teaching and learning are:
- playing and exploring - children investigate and experience things, and 'have a go'
- active learning - children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements
- creating and thinking critically - children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things
These characteristics are evident in our continuous provision, enabling environments and within our discrete teaching, we offer a broad, exciting, child led curriculum. Practitioners and teachers plan in the moment, alongside pre written long, medium and short term plans, scaffolding and extending children's knowledge and understanding. The impact is evident in purposeful and engaged children, that are able to use practitioners and teachers to facilitate their next steps. If children are not making progress in their development or responding to individual provision, assessment and advice from outside agencies is sought as soon as possible.
In Nursery and Reception children undertake a baseline assessment, this enables teachers to assess what steps need to be put in place so that all children make the necessary progress to meet the Early Learning Goals at the end of this important keystage
